The 15 hours of the PHRE major's "required support"
requirement should fit together as a coherent whole, but they need not
be from a single discipline.
The fifteen hours need not match any minor in existence.
Unlike minors, the courses in Required Support cannot "double count" on
the worksheet.
The Required Support courses should be 15 hours of courses
that the PHRE major and her/his advisor could put a title on. Here
are a couple examples:
"Applied mathematics" (math, CS, and physics)
"International communications" (foreign language courses not counting elsewhere on the worksheet plus Comm 420 Intercultural Communication, SOAN 331 Linguistic Anthropology, and a linguistics course)
The Required Support courses are a great way to work in
Interdisciplinary minors if the student is not on a course catalog that
had that minor.
For double majors (or for students who
dropped a major with a lot of supporting work for that major), 15
credit hours of courses from that "other" (non-PHRE) major can be used
to fulfill the Required Support for PHRE majors.
